What is with the fact that so many people's asses don't work properly? What I mean is, why don't people's ass muscles fire when they should? Are we all just a bunch of lazy bums? Chances are your butt muscles don't fire properly. Chances are they aren't functioning the way they should be. Why is there this epidemic of sleepy lazy asses in our society?
Office work is a major pain in the ass for glute functioning because the hip flexors and chest muscles are shortened and active, while the butt muscles and upper-back muscles are long and inactive. As a result, imbalances commonly develop between the hip flexors and their antagonists (AKA opposite muscles), the glutes, and also between the chest muscles and their antagonists, the upper-back muscles.
Still not sure why glute strength is so important? Glutes play a major role in knee health. Your butt is made up of three main muslces, gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and gluteus minimus. Arss muscles stabilize the hip joints. If our butts are weak, we have difficulty controlling hip and thigh movements. This will causes our knees to fold in toward each other, which can lead to knee pain. This problem is more common with the gals than men (yet another physical issue we are blessed with)because women's hips are wider, forming a more severe angle (the Q angle) between the hip and knee.
And if our knees hurt when we move, we lose a lot of choices for cardiovascular work-- virtually everything except swimming and maybe cycling if we're lucky. And the less we can do and the more restrictions we have, chances are we're going to move less and probably pack on some poundage.
So I want to help fire your arss right now. Can you find your lazy butt as you read this? All you have to do is think about it and try to squeeze it right here right now. Can you? One good visualization and exercise you can use anywhere anytime is think about trying to hold a loonie between your ass cheeks. Don't drop it now! Squeeze your cheeks when you wait in line at Starbucks, for the subway or while you're in line at the bank. Wake up your butt and start doing some proper strength training workouts that will even out the imbalances that exist in your bod'.
Now don't make me fire your arss for you!
